In 1964 Richard A. Bushkuhl, known to his family and friends as Rik, opened his first shoe store 704 Garrison Avenue in Fort Smith. The store name was later shortened from Rik’s Factory Outlet Shoes to Rik’s Shoes. A second location was added in 1972 in the Waldron Square Shopping Center on Rogers Avenue.

Being a family-owned business, all of the Bushkuhl’s five children helped at the store. As soon as the children were old enough to unpack boxes, they would help in the storeroom on weekends and after school. Susy and David continue the family tradition by operating both stores at their original locations.

Rik’s carries women’s shoes and accessories. Their oldest line is SAS. In fact when S.A.S. started in business, Rik’s Shoes was their 4th account to open.
