D.C. Whitson opened Midwest Hardware and Supply at 924 Garrison Avenue in 1940. D.C.’s son Herman joined the family business and operated it through location changes and name alterations. Jonsye who began playing softball in 1974 at Andrews Field, started working with her Dad in 1976. Her sister Linda came on board in 1977. Screening team names and logos on shirts and uniforms kept Herman’s daughters busy. That same year Midwest moved to Park Plaza across from Creekmore Park. The next year, the name was altered to read: Midwest Sporting Goods. Through the years that followed, other locations were opened and closed: Phoenix Village Square in Fort Smith, Van Buren and Russellville.
In 1995 Midwest Sporting Goods moved to its current location. The building at 1310 South Zero Street was large enough to house a showroom, warehouse and production area.
From volleyballs to baseballs, ankle weights to ski masks, trophies and awards, shoes and gloves; whatever your sports’ need…Midwest Sporting Goods has you covered. Remember custom monogramming and screen-printing is available.
